I left Manhattan Saturday around noon. I took the train from Penn Station back to Albany. The train ride was lovely, being daylight, I could see the snow and ice covering the mountains along the Hudson River and it was truly beautiful. Once again, the train was right on time. I got out to my jeep and the remote didn't unlock the doors. I soon discovered that my battery was dead!!! I walked over to the booth where you pay to get out of the parking lot to ask if they had any way to jump batteries. They looked at me like I was crazy. I went inside to Amtrak to ask if they could help, and they said to ask at the Taxi stand. The taxi guy said, "I can't risk it. It could damage my cars." So, I started trying to find a tow company but they were all $65 to $100 and I wasn't going to spend that just for a fucking battery jump. I walked into the news stand shop and asked the lady there if she knew of anyone locally who could give me a jump. She said, "Where are you parked? I'll come out and help you!" I was so happy. In ten minutes, I was charged and running. I thanked her profusely and gave here a twenty. Thanks God for nice people! Then I was off. It was snowing, but the roads were clear and visibility was fine. It took me about 4 hours to get to Moravia where Pam lives. Moravia is just about in the middle of NY just south of Skaneatles Lake. Right in the middle of HICKville. If you think there are rednecks in the south, you haven't seen anything until you go to Central New York. Even the women are rough! And they don't smile at you!!!
Moravia is a very small town. Pam's apartment was right on the main street. She was moving to a new apartment and I offered to help her. I had hoped to get it done before Christmas, but she was too busy and ti was very cold, so we decided to wait until after Christmas. Santa came early and Pam's daughter Hannah got to open her presents on Christmas eve. She got so many cook toys and even a Wii game system. She was one happy girl. On Christmas day, I made dinner. I baked ham with cloves and maple syrup, sweet potatoes with brown sugar and walnuts, green beans and corn. and stuffing with an apple-cranberry chutney. Carrot cake was dessert! It was all very yummy.
After Christmas we started packing and moving to the new place. Her new apartment is SO nice. The first level is the kitchen and dining and living room and bath. The kitchen is about twice as big as her old one. Upstairs is a very large bedroom and downstairs is the basement, which she is going to make a media/game room! I can't wait to go back and see how she has everything set up! It is going to be so awesome. And the best thing is it's about $100 less a month! I am so happy for her!
